Have you been working at the same job for years only to find yourself unhappy? Maybe you feel as though the negative working environment has become more than you can tolerate. For some, it can be as simple as just one co-worker making the job unbearable. Whatever your situation is, there’s always another job, but no guarantee that your next job will be any better. No matter where you go, the only thing that you can be certain of is that you’re the one going through it, whatever “it” is.
Expectation You may start a new job or even begin a career with an expectation of making a difference or impressing your peers. Maybe you had plans of quickly moving through the ranks or receiving consistent salary increases. When the job doesn’t meet your expectations, you become disenchanted, feeling as though someone or something is to blame for your lack of progress. If the job turns out to be something other than what you expected, what do you do about it?
Attitude It often happens that the attitude of a coworker or boss begins to negatively affect your life. Maybe a boss threatens you with repercussions if your level of work doesn’t improve or that raise or promotion never quite happens. You might be working alongside someone who seems to do nothing, but create problems, always spreading negative rumors and talking poorly of others. After awhile, these attitudes can begin to affect your quality of life. Why can some people easily dismiss these attitudes and manage to work contently? Environment For some, the working environment is so negative on a daily basis that it begins to impact their physical or mental well being. For example, a police officer who is sworn to protect and serve, is treated like the enemy by the very people he’s protecting. He also deals with the worst of society every day. While he initially became an officer to make a difference, it’s easy to lose of that when the negativity of the daily job overshadows the good he’s doing. There’s always the few that seem to take it in stride and live their life virtually unaffected by this negative environment. The ability to adapt We’ve all known that person who is able to adapt to any situation. When the job didn’t turn out to be what she expected, she was able to adjust and find her niche. The overbearing boss or negative coworker never gets to her. She just says something like “everybody’s different” and goes about her business. When others are literally in her face, she’s able to stay detached and unaffected. All of us have known somebody who make it all seem so easy, feeling good about what they do, unaffected by the negative working conditions, even seemingly able to ignore those who make the job a living hell. What is their secret? Why can two people who work the exact same job, have such different experiences? Throughout your life, you build strategies based on experience, example, choice and emotion. Every single thing you do, you had to learn. Two people who work the same job have different expectations, attitudes and strategies that either help them adapt or get in the way. Sometimes the way in which you approach something isn’t the best way, but it is the only way you know. Sometimes you get too emotionally wrapped up when the situation could be handled better with emotional detachment. Maybe you just don’t have the proper tools to manage the situation well. That’s where hypnosis and life coaching comes in. With a good hypnotherapist, you can learn new attitudes and approaches for handling almost anything that comes your way. Through the use of hypnosis and life coaching, you can develop new strategies and new tools that will help you better adjust and improve your quality of life. It can help you become more emotionally balanced and even detached when appropriate. For more information on this subject or to schedule a consultation, contact Kevin Hawkins.
