Dealing with Chronic Pain
Dealing with Chronic Pain
The International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as "An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described by the patient in terms of such damage." Acute pain that persists with only temporary periods of relief or no relief at all, is known as chronic pain.

Chronic pain usually leads to a pre-occupation with the pain itself, that brings with it the symptoms of irritability, insomnia, fatigue, depression and a general depletion of energy. It can adversely affect relationships, job performance, social gatherings and many other things in the life of the sufferer.

The treatment of chronic pain, depending on the cause and location in the body, usually involves some form of physical therapy, combined with medication. The pills prescribed are usually one of the more popular pain killers(Vicodin, Darvocet, Percidan, Demoral, etc.) together with anti-inflammatories or muscle relaxers.

Through several studies of chronic pain, it has been determined that much of what is experienced, is magnified by the mind. This means that the much or even most of the pain that is experienced by the sufferer, is being magnified by the mind. Most treatments stop at the body, without treating the one place where the pain is actually experienced - the mind. Physical treatment combined with behavioral therapy could greatly accelerate and improve the effectiveness of treatment.

Here at the Center for Whole Health, we can usually greatly reduce or even stop the pain that is felt by our client. This is accomplished by helping our client to stop identifying with the pain, while helping them change the way their mind experiences the pain itself. In most cases, our client gets significant relief from the symptoms.

If you are experiencing chronic pain, come to our center for a Free Consultation and Evaluation. We will work with you to design a program, discuss payment options and schedule treatment.
